Originally a knockoff of Marvel's INVADERS DC Comics originally appeared from FREEDOM FIGHTERS issues 7 thru 9 in In 1977.
Americomando -Captain America
Americommando was used first by Mr America as an epigraph to his name or as an alternative name. But also was the official name of several characters than (except for Tex Thompson, Mr America)
Rusty: Bucky
Barracuda : Namor
Barracuda: 1941, Military Comics #4.
Fireball and Sparky: Original Torch and Toro.
It was a fun couple issues and was a what if the Invaders took on the Freedom Fighters
Updated versions of Americomando and Barracuda show up as members of First Strike in "Uncle Sam And The Freedom Fighters #4
The new team appeared in UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #3 Jan 2008
,
It's Members were:
Captain Triumph. A new take on an old Quality hero most recently seen in the pages of HARLEY QUINN. A heroine with Super Strength and flight like the original. No back story.
MAGNO, Another old quality character. Magnetic powers like the Original .
Citizen X. A new character created for the story who dies by the end of the arc. Citizen X was an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. He possessed super-human agility, and had enhances senses that allowed him to fight without the need for sight.
Libertine. Another hero who dies trying to save the world from evil insects. B
At the end of the story Arc Both Magno and Captain go off to new adventures and are never seen again.
Freedom Fighters recently had another run, but even excluded the THE RAY from it's roster.
I have been a fan of the Quality comics heroes since I first read "Crisis on Earth X" . Back in the day many comics had reprints of the old quality heroes.
Writer Roy Thomas even included them in his ALL STAR SQUADRON run.
Today heroes like NEON, and FIREBRAND have appeared in THE UNEXPECTED. So there is no telling if the idea of a NEW CRUSADERS or another FREEDOM FIGHTERS is coming.
One could hope.
Go Forth and DO WELL
Shane.
