The Secret Six Appeared in 1968. Now they were not at all like the current version of the team.
They were six people led by a shadowy Figure only know as Mockingbird whose identity is masked. The most unique thing about this team is that none of the six were volunteers. Another is that Mockingbird had some kind of information on each them that forced them to become his own private strike team.
The first Set of members were August Durant, Lili de Neuve, Carlo di Rienzi, Mike Tempest, Crimson Dawn and King Savage. Each member had a set of skills suited for each mission.
The identity of Mockingbird is reavealed in the last issue.
The series lasted until 1969, A new version of the team would show up in 1988
This team was a whole new group of six people. The series was built on the premise that the original team died. There was a new team and a new Mockingbird. The new team consisted of Mitch Hoberman, Ladonna Jameal, Tony Mantegna, Luke McKendrick, Vic Sommers and Dr. Maria Verdugo. Like there secrets regarding the team.
This version only lasted from The May 1988 Issue of ACTION WEEKLY COMICS to the December issue.
I personally loved the series, but think that having all the the stories in ACTION WEEKLY made hard to get an audience.
It seemed that we might not seem that team again. Technically we did see that type of team, but we did see THE SECRET SIX again in 2005 in a book called VILLAINS UNITED.
VILLAINS UNITED really reintroduced 2 teams: THE SECRET SOCIETY OF SUPER-VILLIANS (SSV) and the SECRET SIX (SIX).
This book showed the difference between both teams. The SSV which had a title in the 1970s had a more evil mission. Whereas the SIX had more grey areas to them and tended to be the rebels of the combined group of villains. I won't get to deep into this series because it may be coming to one of the online comics sites. The member of the SIX was Catman, Deadshot, Cheshire, Rag Doll, Scandal Savage, and Parademon.
Next we have the SECRET SIX limited series in 2006
This series helped to define each of these characters. It quite literally new versions of CATMAN and RAG DOLL. It also expanded on CHESHIRE and DEADSHOT. While further expanding on new characters SCANDAL SAVAGE and PARADEMON.
In Birds of Prey issues #104–108, the Secret Six battle the Birds of Prey.
I liked this version the best and it is a great read if you can find it. Alas it was a limited series and we would not see the team again until 2008.
The Six added 2 new members: Bane and a new character
This Series ran for 2008 until 2011.

Once again there is a membership shake up with the team.
Catman and Black Alice, including Strix, Ventriloquist (Shauna Belzer), Ralph Dibny under the alias of Big Shot and a new character named Porcelain make up the new team.
